How to Prepare Your Home for New Flooring Installation
Nov 3rd 2024
Nothing refreshes the look and feel of your home like new flooring. Whether upgrading to shining hardwood or adding comfort with plush carpet, a little preparation goes a long way in making the installation process smooth and hassle-free. While professional installers can handle the heavy lifting if you need. You can take a few simple steps to make the process easier for our layers.
Clarify what's included in the installation
Before you proceed, it's important to clarify what your flooring installer includes in its package. Some installers give only a partial quote, which means they don't include the cost of moving heavy furniture and/or uplifting and removing old flooring.
On the other hand, we can provide an all-inclusive quote includes those extra jobs in addition to installation. Including any floor prep and extra additions that will make your installation easier.

Remove the breakables
Next, remove everything from the rooms before your floor installation. If you are getting it installed in sections move your belongings as you go. This is any loose items that would get in the way of the installation process, including, home decor, furniture, lighting, delicates, mirrors and technology/cords.
Removing all of your belongings also helps to prevent any incidents and dust/debris getting on your things.

Clean out your cupboards and storage areas
Since you closets and storage areas are behind closed doors, it might seem that you can leave your items in there while the installation is ongoing. In cases of wardrobes they will generally have the same flooring installed so everything in there will need to be moved out to make it easier for your installer to get into the tight space. There is a chance that belongings in stand alone cupboards could get dust and debris inside so we do recommend removing any items to make the cleaning process after the install easier.
What to expect after the installation
Once your new floors are in, there are a few things that you'll want to be aware of; in most cases your flooring is good to go straight away unless your installer says otherwise. There might be excess smells they linger for a small amount of time from any glue that is used for certain floor types, therefore, it is best to ventilate the rooms by keeping doors and windows open where possible. If you choose wool carpet you may notice slight fluffing after it is laid, this is completely normal and will stop after some time.
Our layers do their best to clean up after install but you may have to get into the smaller areas to clean any excess dust/debris.
As you can see, your flors will be ready to enjoy with the right prep and a little post-install care. Preparing ahead of time will expedite the process and improve the quality of the install so you can have good looking floors for as long as possible. It also makes the process quick and stress-free.
